Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning to officers against abuse of power and unprofessional dressing while on duty.
During a virtual meeting with senior police managers nationwide, Egbetokun emphasized that any officer found violating human rights or engaging in misconduct would face strict disciplinary action.
He also expressed concern over reports of excessive force and improper conduct within the Force.
The IGP specifically cautioned tactical squads against carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire, stating that such practices violate standard procedures and create public distrust.
He reiterated that all officers must adhere to the approved dress code and maintain professionalism in their operations.
Additionally, Egbetokun ordered that no case should be transferred without his written approval, a move aimed at curbing unnecessary delays and ensuring fairness in case management.
He reaffirmed his commitment to police reforms, urging officers to uphold discipline, accountability, and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
