The Federal Government will meet with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), on Wednesday to deliberate on a proposal to extend basic education to 12 years.
The initiative, introduced by Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, seeks to merge junior and senior secondary education into a unified system. However, stakeholders have urged a thorough review before implementation.
ANCOPPS President, Musa Ibrahim, emphasized that the proposal is still under discussion, while NUT President, Audu Amber, called for further analysis before taking a position.
Meanwhile, Parent-Teacher Association Chairman, Haruna Danjuma, supports the plan, citing its potential to reduce dropout rates and strengthen vocational training from primary four to better prepare students for future careers.
