The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered 125 stolen manhole covers in Abuja, reinforcing its crackdown on infrastructure theft.

The recovery, made on February 4, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation in the Dei-Dei area, followed a tip-off from a vigilant informant. Officers discovered the stolen items concealed in a pit.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, emphasized the command’s commitment to combating infrastructure vandalism, stating, “Our operatives are intensifying efforts to locate and dismantle illegal storage sites where vandals stockpile stolen items. The FCT must be free from these criminal elements.”

The operation builds on recent successes, including a joint effort with the FCT Minister’s Task Force that intercepted vandalized public infrastructure last week.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, commended residents for their support and urged continued vigilance, stressing that safeguarding public assets is a collective responsibility.

The command also encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities via its emergency contact numbers.
