A deadly cult clash between the Deybam and Icelanders groups in Obelle Community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, has left at least 19 people dead.
The violence, which erupted on Sunday, follows a similar attack last Wednesday that claimed seven lives.
Local sources say the renewed battle was fueled by a fight for supremacy and revenge.
A resident, Kingsley, described the chaos, saying, “The shooting was intense, and innocent people were caught in the crossfire.”
Rivers State police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident, stating that the conflict was linked to disputes over levies from an oil company in the area.
While police have confirmed 10 deaths so far, investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
Authorities are under pressure to restore peace to the troubled community.
