The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has announced that its ongoing offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection, which commenced on February 5, will be completed by March 2, 2025.
WAPCo’s General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Isaac Adjei Doku, stated that the five-yearly maintenance exercise is crucial for ensuring operational efficiency, pipeline integrity, and compliance with insurance requirements.
The project, spanning Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana, involves transporting approximately 85,000 MMSCF/d of gas to push the Pipeline Inspection Gauge (PIG) from Nigeria to Takoradi, Ghana.
Key activities include debris removal, internal pipeline inspection, and subsea valve replacement.
Operations are primarily taking place offshore and at WAPCo’s Lagos Beach Compressor Station in Badagry, Nigeria, as well as the Takoradi Regulating and Metering Station in Ghana.
Doku assured that stringent safety measures have been put in place, with extensive stakeholder engagement across the four host countries.
WAPCo also acknowledged the support of regulatory bodies and governments in ensuring a smooth execution of the project.
