The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu over his alleged failure to prosecute contractors accused of misappropriating over ₦167 billion from 31 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), without executing any projects.
Filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos (FHC/L/MISC/121/2025), the suit also names Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, as a respondent.
SERAP seeks a court order compelling Tinubu to direct Fagbemi to take legal action against implicated companies and contractors.
The organization further demands that Finance Minister Olawale Edun disclose the names of the contractors, project details, and funds disbursed, as outlined in the 2021 Auditor-General’s report.
SERAP argues that the alleged fraud has deprived Nigerians of essential services and undermined public trust.
Citing Nigeria’s obligations under the UN Convention against Corruption, SERAP stresses that accountability is crucial to curbing financial mismanagement.
The Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET), alone accounted for ₦100 billion of the unexecuted contracts.
A hearing date for the case is yet to be set.
