Prominent Northern groups, including the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), and the Northern Awareness Network (NAN), have applauded President Bola Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for dismissing three Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), over alleged misconduct.
In separate statements issued in Kaduna, the groups described the action as a bold move to restore public trust in Nigeria’s electoral process.
They commended Tinubu for upholding constitutional oversight and ensuring accountability in election management.
AYCF President-General Yerima Shettima emphasized that INEC’s efforts, including the recent conviction of Professor Ignatius Uduk for electoral fraud, signal a strong stance against malpractice.
NAN Chairman Salihu Suleiman also lauded the due process followed in the RECs’ dismissal, stressing the importance of integrity in electoral administration.
The groups urged security agencies and political stakeholders to enforce ethical standards, emphasizing that strengthening electoral transparency is crucial for Nigeria’s democracy.
