The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), will host a pivotal State of the Nation Discourse on February 19, 2025, to address the full implementation of financial autonomy for local governments.
The event follows the Supreme Court’s historic July 2024 ruling, which granted local governments autonomy in line with the 1999 Constitution.
The NBA’s General Secretary, Mobolaji Ojibara, announced that the forum will bring together stakeholders—including state governors, local government representatives, and civil society organizations—to explore obstacles preventing the full application of the ruling.
The discourse aims to foster accountability, efficiency, and compliance with the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment, marking a significant step toward strengthening local governance in Nigeria.
