A primary school headmaster in Niger State, Amilu Usman, has admitted handing over his two sons to human traffickers, claiming it was a desperate attempt to secure better Islamic education for them in Niger Republic.
Usman, whose children were among 21 rescued boys, revealed that parents in Magama LGA paid N35,000 per child monthly for their upkeep in Niger and Mali.
He justified his decision by citing the lack of teachers and infrastructure in local schools.
Niger State Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, condemned the act, vowing to crack down on traffickers and hold parents accountable for enabling child trafficking.
Authorities are now hunting for the syndicate behind the operation.
