Benue State is set to lead Nigeria’s coal-to-gas transformation, a groundbreaking initiative that could reshape the country’s energy landscape.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP), affirmed the state’s readiness to spearhead this project, leveraging its rich coal deposits and commitment to sustainable development.

The coal-to-gas process will convert coal into cleaner gas for power generation, industry, and domestic use, reducing emissions compared to traditional coal combustion.

The initiative aligns with the federal government’s push to diversify energy sources and optimize Nigeria’s vast coal reserves.

Benue officials have expressed strong support, seeing the project as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and investment.

The NGEP Chairman emphasized that this move will enhance Nigeria’s energy security and reduce reliance on imported gas.

If successful, Benue’s model could pave the way for similar projects nationwide, positioning the state as a key energy hub.
