The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched the recruitment process for National Health Fellows by inaugurating the FCT National Health Fellows Selection Committee.
This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide.
Represented by Dolapo Fasawe at the inauguration, Wike emphasized the program’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system by developing a new generation of health leaders.
The initiative falls under the Human Capital Opportunity for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE), Programme, designed to attract young professionals to improve health services.
The National Health Fellows Programme, approved by President Bola Tinubu in January 2025, aims to recruit qualified candidates from all 774 local government areas to oversee the construction of 8,800 primary healthcare facilities.
The selected fellows will receive training in leadership, public health, financial management, and monitoring and evaluation.
The seven-member selection committee, chaired by Baba Gana Adam, includes Dan Gadzama, Teresa Nwachukwu, Aderonke Akande, Maimuna Abdullahi, and Danladi Chiya.
The program operates under WHO guidelines and is part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
