UDUTH Performs First Kidney Transplant, Earns National Recognition

The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, has successfully conducted its first kidney transplant at the TETFund Centre of Excellence in Urology and Nephrology, solidifying its status as the top-performing institution among Nigeria’s 27 TETFund Centres of Excellence.

 

At the unveiling ceremony, TETFund’s Director of Research and Development, Salisu Bakari, commended UDUTH’s achievement, emphasizing its potential to become a premier medical center in Sub-Saharan Africa.

 

He also announced plans to facilitate knowledge-sharing by inviting directors from other centers to learn from UDUTH’s success.

 

Bakari reaffirmed TETFund’s commitment to supporting UDUTH’s development, particularly in strengthening ICT infrastructure and internet connectivity in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

 

He highlighted how the hospital’s milestone would enhance healthcare access for underserved populations and demonstrate the effective use of public funds.

 

Usmanu Danfodiyo University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bashir Garba, applauded the medical team, led by Prof. Ismail Mungadi, for their groundbreaking work, bringing honor to both the institution and the nation.
