President Bola Tinubu has increased the proposed 2025 budget from ₦49.7 trillion to ₦54.2 trillion, citing improved revenue collection by key government agencies, including the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

The announcement was conveyed in letters to both chambers of the National Assembly, presented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.

Tinubu stated that the increase was driven by an additional ₦1.4 trillion from FIRS, ₦1.2 trillion from NCS, and ₦1.8 trillion from government-owned entities.

The Senate President referred the request to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for immediate review, expressing confidence that lawmakers would finalize and pass the budget before the end of February.
