The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), has inaugurated a chapter at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), reinforcing its commitment to professional excellence and ethical accounting practices.
Speaking at the event, ICAN President Davidson Alaribe emphasized the importance of maintaining high ethical standards, noting that FIRS is Nigeria’s largest employer of chartered accountants, with over 2,800 ICAN members.
He commended FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji for his transformative leadership, which has strengthened the agency’s role in national economic growth.
Representing Adedeji, Dr. Dick Irri reiterated the need for professionalism and integrity in financial management. Adedeji, a Fellow of ICAN, expressed strong support for the chapter, recognizing the pivotal role of chartered accountants in tax administration.
The newly inaugurated FIRS ICAN Chapter is led by Dr. Josephine Onyia as Chairperson, alongside Mrs. Adenike Adegoke (Vice-Chairperson), Abdurauf Aderemi (General Secretary), Mrs. Patricia Ofili (Treasurer), and Mr. Aduka Borr (Publicity Secretary).
Onyia pledged to foster continuous learning and professional development among members.
This initiative is expected to enhance the expertise of ICAN professionals within FIRS and promote financial integrity across Nigeria’s tax administration system.
