Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has warned officers against the unauthorised transfer of cases and misuse of police authority, stating that such actions undermine investigations and erode public trust.

Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday, emphasized the IGP’s directive for transparency, professionalism, and accountability in police operations.

Egbetokun cautioned against indiscriminate case transfers, stressing that cases should be investigated within the jurisdiction of the alleged offence unless approved by his office.

He also condemned police interference in civil disputes, particularly land matters, warning officers to stay within their legal mandate.

To curb harassment through frivolous petitions, the IGP mandated that all petitions include a declaration confirming their authenticity and withdrawal from other law enforcement agencies if previously submitted. False petitioners will face sanctions.

Egbetokun urged the public to direct petitions to appropriate police formations and assured Nigerians of the Force’s commitment to professionalism.

He warned that any officer or individual found abusing police authority or misusing the IGP’s name would face strict disciplinary action.
