The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the immediate retirement of senior police officers who have served for over 35 years or are above 60 years of age.

This decision was made during the commission’s first extraordinary meeting of the 6th Management Board on Friday, January 31, 2025.

In 2017, the PSC allowed force entrants to use their appointment date instead of their enlistment date, but following a review, it concluded that this policy contradicted the principle of service merger in the public sector.

The extraordinary meeting, presided over by PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, included members Justice Adamu Paul Galumje and DIG Taiwo Lakanu.

The decision has been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.
