Opeifa Assumes Leadership of NRC, Outlines Vision for Transformation

Kayode Opeifa, Ph.D., has officially assumed office as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

At a formal ceremony held on January 30, 2025, Opeifa expressed gratitude to the President for the trust and confidence placed in him, committing to lead the NRC in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Opeifa outlined his ambitious vision for the NRC, emphasizing modernization, expansion, and enhanced safety as key priorities.

His plans include upgrading existing infrastructure, increasing connectivity between major cities and economic hubs, and promoting customer satisfaction.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening security measures to protect both personnel and assets.

The new MD highlighted several initiatives aimed at accelerating project completion, fostering private sector partnerships, and driving capacity building within the workforce.

He also committed to fostering a harmonious relationship with staff and unions, ensuring their welfare and productivity.

A major focus of Opeifa’s leadership will be leveraging technology and innovation to drive the corporation’s transformation, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability and the creation of jobs.

He reaffirmed his dedication to increasing the rail sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s GDP and supporting the broader economy through improved logistics and transportation networks.

Opeifa’s tenure promises a renewed focus on transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, with a clear aim to reposition the NRC as a world-class transportation service provider.
