The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intercepted 21 minors suspected to be victims of human trafficking at the Geidam checkpoint in Yobe State, near the Niger Republic border.

The children, aged 7 to 15, were found traveling in a Toyota Hiace bus from Niger State to Maine Soroa in Niger Republic without travel documents.

The Yobe State Comptroller of NIS, S.S. Jega, raised concerns over their safety, suspecting trafficking.

A 28-year-old Islamic school teacher, Abubakar Saidu, was arrested in connection with the incident. Authorities have commenced investigations while the minors have been placed in protective custody.
