Victor Boniface will remain at Bayer Leverkusen after his proposed move to Saudi club Al Nassr collapsed.
German journalist Florian Plettenberg confirmed the development on Wednesday night, revealing that despite verbal agreements and a completed medical, Al Nassr pulled out of the deal.
The club opted instead to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán.
Leverkusen boss Simon Rolfes and coach Xabi Alonso also confirmed Boniface’s stay.
“He will train again tomorrow. I believe he is staying with us,” Alonso said after Leverkusen’s 2-0 Champions League win over Sparta Prague.
Boniface, sidelined since November due to injury, could feature against Hoffenheim on Sunday.
