Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has revealed that he has endured 15 years of criticism and harassment from fans over his infamous miss at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in an emotional interview, Aiyegbeni admitted that the incident—his open-goal miss against South Korea—still haunts him, with fans refusing to let go of the moment many blamed for Nigeria’s early exit from the tournament.
“I’ve tried to move on, but people keep bringing it up,” he said, adding that “The abuse and criticism have taken a toll on me.”
His revelation has drawn sympathy from fans and former players, highlighting the intense scrutiny athletes face and the long-term impact of a single mistake in professional sports.
