The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday inaugurated Mojisola Meranda as its new Speaker, following the removal of Mudashiru Obasa over alleged misconduct.
Obasa, who returned to Lagos over the weekend after a trip to Georgia, maintained his claim to the speakership, insisting, “I remain the Speaker until the right thing is done.”
Meranda’s installation was held under tight security, with police screening attendees and stationed across the premises to ensure order.
All 39 Assembly members attended the plenary, posing with the new Speaker in a show of unity despite the contentious circumstances surrounding the leadership change.
