The Chief Magistrate Court in Ibadan has adjourned the trial of former Ooni of Ife’s wife, Naomi Silekunola; broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat; and Islamic High School Principal, Abdulahib Fasasi, until March 24, 2025.
The trio faces charges of conspiracy, murder, manslaughter, and negligence following the deaths of 35 children in a stampede at a Christmas funfair on December 18, 2024.
Their counsel argued that the initial holden charge was invalid, leading to bail being granted by the High Court. A formal charge has since been filed, but the defendants are yet to be served.
The adjournment allows for plea-taking at the High Court before further proceedings.
