Police Arrest Two, Recover Firearm, Ammunition in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a Beretta pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, and a Toyota Corolla during a checkpoint operation on the Umudioka-Awkuzu road near Igbariam.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that officers from the Special Anti-Cult Squad detained the suspects, Raphael Peverga and Saakura Teryima, both 22, after a routine search on January 25, 2025.

The vehicle, with license plate YAB 26 CB, was flagged for inspection at around 5:38 pm, but two other occupants managed to flee. Efforts are ongoing to locate the escapees.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, reiterated the Command’s commitment to improving security measures to curb criminal activity in the state.
