The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), have launched a coordinated response to a dynamite explosion in Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area, Niger State, on January 27, 2025.
The explosion, confirmed by the Niger State Police Command, occurred around 7:30 AM in a residential building where improperly stored dynamites were kept by a local artisan miner.
Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun reported that the blast claimed the life of Fatima Sadauki and left six others injured.
The injured were rushed to General Hospital Kainji in New Bussa for treatment.
The incident also caused significant damage to about 12 houses, raising concerns over the safety of storing hazardous materials in residential areas.
NEMA and NSEMA are working together to provide emergency relief and address the situation.
Efforts are ongoing to assist affected residents and prevent future occurrences of such disasters.
