Timileyin Ajayi, accused of the murder of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), member Salome Adaidu, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of culpable homicide punishable by death.
Arraigned on January 27, 2025, before Justice Simeon Aboki in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Ajayi faces trial following his arrest on January 12.
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed that Ajayi was detained after investigations into Adaidu’s death at his residence.
Officer-in-Charge Stanley Nwaforagu expressed confidence in the prosecution’s case, emphasizing the commitment to ensuring justice.
Defense counsel Joseph Tukur stressed the importance of a fair trial, asserting that it is the prosecution’s responsibility to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The court has adjourned the case to March 17–20 for an accelerated hearing, with both sides preparing for the upcoming proceedings.
