Kano State Investment Promotion Agency (KANINVEST), has signed a $15 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with STATA Power Utility Nigeria Limited to implement a customized gas programme in the state.

Speaking during the signing ceremony at KANINVEST headquarters in Kano, the agency’s Director General, Muhammad Nazir Halliru, described the agreement as a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, fostering a cleaner environment, and creating job opportunities.

The programme will supply compressed natural gas (CNG), and convert vehicles from petroleum to gas.

Halliru emphasized its potential to address challenges related to rising petroleum costs and transportation in Kano, while also extending CNG supply to industries to enhance productivity and services.

Implementation is expected to commence within six months, following the establishment of gas stations in the state.

STATA Power Utility CEO, Salman Dantata, highlighted the project’s alignment with global cleaner energy trends, aiming to lower transportation costs, boost industrialization, and improve environmental sustainability.

Dantata revealed that STATA plans to invest up to $15 million over the next two years, including the deployment of LCNG stations.

Within the next year, the company will introduce 5,000 solar-powered tricycles and 10 motor vehicles for commercial use in Kano.
