The Federal Government has approved a N4 billion conditional cash transfer programme to support at least 10 million vulnerable households across Nigeria.
Announcing the initiative at the launch of the 2025 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP), in Abuja, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, stated that the programme targets displaced families, particularly in the Northeast, and will run from February to April.
“We are prioritising women, especially widows, pregnant women, and those with disabilities.
“These groups face unique challenges, and this initiative aims to address their needs,” Yilwatda said.
In addition, the government has approved N2 billion for interest-free loans to rural farmers, ranging from N300,000 to N400,000 per household, to boost food production and self-sufficiency.
The HNRP was developed to address humanitarian needs in conflict-affected regions, including Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.
Yilwatda emphasized that the plan integrates humanitarian, developmental, and peacebuilding efforts to foster resilience and sustainable solutions for affected communities.
These interventions reflect the government’s commitment to alleviating poverty and addressing the needs of displaced persons and vulnerable groups nationwide.
