Gunmen stormed a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Sunday, killing 54-year-old Prophet Yomi Adetula during a service.
The attack occurred at CCC Eagle Parish along Baggage Road, Odo Eran, around 10:30 a.m.
Eyewitnesses reported that the three assailants targeted Adetula, shooting him and brutally attacking his head with an axe.
Ogun State Police Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that officers found Adetula’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, with bullet wounds and severe head injuries.
Odutola revealed that the attackers used a double-barrel gun and fled toward the border area.
She assured the public that investigations are underway to apprehend the culprits, adding that normalcy had been restored in the area.
The deceased’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital Morgue in Ilaro as police continue their probe into the tragic incident.
