The Federal Government has directed the immediate transfer of victims of the recent Suleja tanker explosion to tertiary medical centers for advanced care.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a visit to Suleja, Niger State, on Sunday.
Leading a federal delegation, including the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Idris conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolences and commitment to addressing the aftermath of the tragedy.
“This administration is deeply saddened by the loss of lives.
“The Minister of Health, NEMA, and relevant agencies are mobilized to ensure victims receive intensive care at tertiary institutions,” Idris stated after assessing the critically injured at Suleja General Hospital, where an eighth victim passed away during the visit.
The explosion, which occurred at Dikko Junction, adds to a grim record of 265 lives lost in tanker explosions since September 2024.
Idris revealed that President Tinubu has set up a high-powered committee comprising key agencies to investigate the causes and prevent future occurrences.
The Minister also emphasized the need for public awareness, condemning fuel scooping during accidents and tasking the National Orientation Agency to educate citizens on the dangers of such practices.
The delegation extended condolences to the Emir of Suleja, Alhaji Auwal Ibrahim, and visited both the victims and the incident site.
