Tragedy struck during the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final in Osogbo as 29-year-old footballer Adeyemi Adewale collapsed on the field and later died despite medical efforts.
Adewale, a player for the Ilesa West Local Government football team, slumped during the match at Ataoja School of Science on Thursday.
He was immediately rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident, Osun State Police Command spokesperson Yemisi Opalola stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of death, while the body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for further examination.
