The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reaffirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, dismissing legal challenges against his leadership.
Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Hamma Barka, leading a three-member panel, upheld the court’s earlier decision of November 13, 2024, confirming Abure’s position as undisputed.
The ruling followed two appeals filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party’s caretaker committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Justice Barka emphasized that party leadership matters are not justiciable and fall outside the court’s jurisdiction.
The appellate court also nullified an October 8, 2024, Federal High Court ruling by Justice Emeka Nwite, declaring it void due to lack of jurisdiction.
“Abure remains National Chairman of the Labour Party,” the court declared.
Further legal implications of the ruling are expected to unfold.
