President Bola Tinubu has appointed Folashade Adekaiyaoja as the first female Deputy Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), marking a historic milestone in Nigeria’s intelligence community.

Adekaiyaoja, who hails from Kogi State, is the first female operative to attain this position.

While the Presidency has yet to make an official announcement, sources indicate that the appointment aligns with Tinubu’s push to reorganize the DSS for enhanced efficiency and professionalism.

According to insider reports, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu recommended Adekaiyaoja for the role through DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi.

The move is also seen as a step toward improving career progression for operatives within the service.

In December 2024, Tinubu directed security agencies to develop strategies for improving service delivery, and Adekaiyaoja’s appointment is considered a crucial step in that direction.

The president has also pledged to equip the DSS and other security agencies with AI-powered technology to combat insecurity effectively.
