The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has declared that he will no longer offer advice to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing dissatisfaction with its policies and leadership approach.
Speaking on Wednesday as chairman of the 21st Memorial Lecture of Chief Gani Fawehinmi in Lagos, Sanusi revealed that although he initially assisted the government, he has now chosen to step back.
“I can give a few points about what we are going through and how it was predictable and avoidable. But I won’t.
“I’ve chosen not to speak on the economy or reforms because if I do, it will help this government, and I don’t want to help them,” he stated.
He criticized the administration for lacking credible voices to explain its policies, adding, “They are my friends, but if they don’t behave like friends, I won’t behave like a friend.”
Sanusi attributed the current economic hardship to decades of mismanagement and warned that past leaders ignored repeated warnings.
However, he hinted at a future statement: “When I am ready to talk about the economy, I will.”
He also urged lawyers to uphold the integrity and virtues embodied by the late Gani Fawehinmi, lamenting their decline in today’s legal profession.
