Nigerian singer Darlington Achakpo, known as Speed Darlington, has been granted bail after being arraigned in court.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the news on X.com on Wednesday.
Adeyanju wrote, “Police finally arraign Speed Darlington in court. Bail application moved and granted. We are working to perfect the bail.”
The legal proceedings follow Speed Darlington’s petition to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, to enforce a court order concerning his continued detention.
His lawyer, Rosemary E. Hamza of Deji Adeyanju & Partners, highlighted that a December 23, 2024, order by Justice M.S. Liman required the police to either charge him within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.
Speed Darlington was first arrested in October 2024 on allegations of defamation and cyberstalking Burna Boy.
After being detained in Abuja by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team, he was re-arrested in November during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, shortly after his return to Nigeria.
