President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for enhanced global collaboration to address climate change and energy challenges, emphasizing that no nation can tackle these issues alone.

Speaking at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the United Arab Emirates, Tinubu urged world leaders to unite through innovation and collective action to build a resilient and equitable future.

Delivering his address, “From Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa with the Global Energy Future,” Tinubu highlighted the opportunity for Africa to lead in reshaping the global energy landscape while addressing climate imperatives.

“As leaders and stakeholders, we stand at a pivotal moment in human history. Success demands innovation, collaboration, and decisive action as one global community,” he stated.

Tinubu outlined Nigeria’s sustainability agenda, anchored on three pillars: Energy Transition, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Development.

He detailed plans to diversify energy sources, reduce fossil fuel dependency, and promote cleaner energy solutions.

The government is investing in infrastructure for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and electric vehicles while leveraging solid minerals to drive the green energy transition.

In agriculture, Nigeria is adopting climate-smart practices to enhance food security and reduce environmental impacts.

Tinubu also spotlighted the National Clean Cooking Policy, designed to promote clean energy use and improve health outcomes across Africa.

Acknowledging Nigeria’s environmental challenges, including deforestation, desertification, and flooding, Tinubu called on global partners to invest in technology and resources to combat these threats and foster a green economy in Africa.

He further emphasized Nigeria’s leadership in green financing, noting the ongoing third issuance of the Sovereign Green Bond to fund sustainable projects.

“We urge investors to join us in advancing this agenda,” he added.

Tinubu commended UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed for hosting the summit, lauding it as a vital platform for addressing global sustainability challenges.

The event brought together leaders worldwide to forge pathways toward a sustainable and prosperous future.
