For the enhancement of ecumenical synergy and to foster stronger Christian unity, a high-level delegation from the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), visited the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), national headquarters on January 13.
The visit served to reaffirm their long-standing partnership and introduce CSN’s newly appointed leadership.
The delegation, led by Rev. Fr. Michael Ayanleke Banjo, CSN Secretary-General, included Rev. Fr. Peter Audu, Director of Church and Society and Executive Secretary/CEO of Caritas Nigeria, and Rev. Fr. Lawrence Emehel, Director of Mission and Dialogue.
They were warmly received by the CAN President, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel Okoh, who lauded CSN’s dedication to Christian unity and collaboration.
During the meeting, Cecilia Inyagbe Agrinya, Head of Caritas Nigeria Communications, highlighted key joint interventions between Caritas Nigeria and CAN, demonstrating their impact on communities.
Ivy Fidelia Odia Basil-Ofili, Head of Business Development, outlined strategies for securing funding to sustain and expand social development projects, emphasizing the critical role of partnerships in achieving long-term success.
Adding an international dimension, a delegation from the German Catholic Bishops’ Conference, led by Bishop Dr. Bertram Meier of Augsburg, joined the engagement.
Their discussions centered on fostering interreligious dialogue and exploring collaborative efforts to promote peace, religious harmony, and social development.
On his part, the Archbishop Okoh expressed optimism about the deepening ties among CSN, CAN, and their international counterparts, stressing the need for sustained collaboration to address religious and societal challenges.
The visit marked a significant step toward strengthening Christian unity and reinforcing shared responsibility in nation-building.
