An Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Abuja was canceled last Wednesday after a disruptive passenger refused to comply with luggage regulations, affecting 89 travelers.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed that passengers were informed of weight restrictions during check-in, with some—including the unruly passenger—signing indemnity forms for excess baggage.
After boarding, the passenger realized her bag was not loaded and insisted it be included, refusing all alternatives offered by the airline.
As departure delays mounted and Uyo’s airspace neared closure, she blocked the aisle, forcing the pilot to cancel the flight.
The disruption left passengers stranded, including an infant and a chef traveling for work. Ibom Air provided refreshments and accommodations, incurring additional costs and scheduling setbacks.
NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu commended airport officials for preventing further escalation, noting the incident’s significant impact on airline operations.
