The Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON), has called on the federal government to introduce a national regulatory framework for the e-hailing sector, citing unfavorable state-level policies.
Speaking in Lagos, AUATON’s South-West Vice-President, Kolawole Aina, criticized the existing state regulations, arguing they prioritize government revenue over driver and passenger welfare.
“State regulations never favor drivers. We bear the burden while app companies and governments focus on profits,” Aina stated, highlighting issues like multiple taxation and poor operational conditions.
He stressed that a federal framework would unify policies, enhance safety through passenger profiling, and create a fairer system for all stakeholders.
Despite efforts to engage the government, Aina lamented a lack of responsiveness.
AUATON continues to push for reforms to ensure a safer and more profitable e-hailing industry.
