In a dramatic twist of fate, Senator John Azuta-Mbata has been chosen as the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and his emergence marks a pivotal moment for the Igbo socio-cultural organization.
On Friday, at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu, delegates from Rivers State unanimously nominated Azuta-Mbata, following the passing of Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who represented Imo State.
The election of Azuta-Mbata, the first Ikwerre native and a former Rivers East Senator, signals a new era of leadership.
As the first Rivers native to hold this esteemed position, his rise is filled with promise for Ndi Igbo, especially at a time when the political landscape is more volatile than ever.
In a statement on Sunday, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia State and current lawmaker representing Abia North, extended his warm congratulations to the newly elected leader.
Kalu expressed unwavering confidence in Azuta-Mbata’s leadership abilities, citing his wealth of experience as a businessman, politician, and statesman.
“Your experience and expertise will be invaluable in this new role,” Kalu said, adding that Azuta-Mbata was the perfect candidate to champion the Igbo cause amid Nigeria’s complex political climate.
Kalu also pledged his full support for Azuta-Mbata as the new President-General takes on the formidable task of leading Ohanaeze Ndigbo into a brighter future.
