Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Osun State, has urged Nigerians, particularly opposition parties, to refrain from making statements that could incite the public against the government.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye acknowledged the opposition’s role in holding the government accountable but cautioned against comments that could destabilize the country.
He stressed that unchecked criticisms could create unnecessary distractions for the Federal Government.
He emphasized the need for constructive criticism that would contribute to governance rather than sow division.
“Politics of bitterness and hatred will not promote national unity but rather cause unnecessary discord among Nigerians,” he warned.
Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker and member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), condemned recent remarks by some opposition figures, which he said had led to undue tension.
“Opposition should be exercised responsibly. Criticism should be constructive, recognizing both achievements and shortcomings, rather than outright condemnation of government policies,” he noted.
He also urged the government to engage critical stakeholders at the policy formation stage to minimize resistance during implementation.
Furthermore, he called on Nigerians to support and pray for the president, emphasizing that national development requires collective effort.
