In a dramatic twist, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has summoned Subomi and Wahab Okoya, sons of billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya, over alleged naira abuse.
The move follows the circulation of a viral video showing the brothers dancing around a police officer holding wads of N1,000 notes, reportedly in a promotional clip for a new song.
The footage sparked public outrage, leading to the arrest and detention of the police officer involved for disciplinary action.
The EFCC’s invitation is part of its ongoing crackdown on naira abuse, a violation of Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Act.
In 2024, similar actions were taken against celebrities Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest for allegedly mishandling the currency.
The Okoya brothers are expected to appear at the EFCC Lagos office on Monday, January 13, 2025, as the agency intensifies efforts to uphold the sanctity of the Naira.
