A 74-year-old man, Ubula Samuel, was on Friday arraigned before a Karu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly causing an accident through reckless driving, resulting in N1.6 million in damages.

The prosecution told the court that on October 10, 2024, the complainant, Jamila Umar, had parked her Toyota car on Kugbo Furniture Road due to mechanical issues, with hazard lights on for safety.

However, Samuel, driving a Toyota Highlander, allegedly rammed into her vehicle, causing severe damage estimated at N1.2 million and inflicting serious injuries on Umar, who also incurred N400,000 in hospital bills and losses.

Samuel, who resides in Ado, Karu, Nasarawa State, pleaded not guilty to the charges of mischief and causing harm by dangerous driving, offenses that violate Sections 327 and 250 of the Penal Code.

Chief Magistrate Ahmed Ndajiwo granted him bail of N500,000, requiring a federal civil servant or registered business owner as surety with a N300,000 deposit in the FCT High Court account.

The case was adjourned to January 30 for hearing.
