Two suspected yam thieves were caught red-handed early Thursday morning at a farm in Dogon Ruwa village, Gawu ward, Abaji Area Council, FCT.
The thieves, who had stolen 25 yam tubers, were caught as they attempted to escape with the goods on a motorcycle.
The farm owner, Shehu Salihu, along with his children, confronted the suspects just as they tried to flee.
A mob quickly gathered, stripping the thieves half-naked and beating them with sticks and cables.
The suspects were then paraded through the community before being taken to the village chief.
In a swift decision, the chief ordered the thieves to receive 25 lashes each before being released.
The FCT police had not confirmed the incident at the time of reporting.
