Students of the University of Calabar (UniCal), have appealed to the institution’s management to extend the deadline for course registration and school fee payments, citing delays in the disbursement of loans from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Johnson David, a 200-level student, highlighted the financial strain caused by the delay.

“Many students have applied for the NELFUND loan, but we are yet to receive the funds.

“Some have also applied for other scholarships, which are still pending,” he said.

However, the university management revealed that it had received over N182 million in loan disbursements on December 3, 2024, benefiting 1,926 students.

Vice-Chancellor Florence Obi urged students to provide details of the disbursed funds to help update school records.

As students await a decision on their request, they remain hopeful that the university will grant an extension to ease their financial burden.
