Tragedy struck in the Kugbo furniture market area of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), as a midnight fire claimed the lives of a 24-year-old mother, Jumai Sunday, and her one-year-six-month-old son, Nasir Rabiu.

Eyewitnesses said the victims were asleep when the raging inferno engulfed their home, trapping them inside.

Their charred remains were discovered by neighbors and sympathizers after firefighters battled the flames.

Confirming the incident, Lakur Langyi, the Divisional Police Officer of Karu, stated that officers responded to a distress call at midnight on Wednesday and found the victims burnt beyond recognition.

While the cause of the fire remains unknown, investigations are ongoing.

The FCT Fire Service had yet to release an official statement at the time of filing this report.

Originally from Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Jumai and her son were laid to rest at Kugbo Cemetery, off the Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi Expressway.
