The female teacher at Christ Mitots School, Ikorodu, Lagos, has been suspended indefinitely after a viral video showed her physically assaulting a toddler, sparking widespread outrage.
In a statement on Thursday, the school management condemned the incident, calling it “unacceptable and contrary to our values.”
The school emphasized its zero-tolerance policy on child abuse and assured the public of a thorough investigation.
The statement described the footage as deeply troubling and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect, care, and dignity.
The teacher’s suspension, it noted, was an immediate and decisive action to uphold the school’s duty to protect its students.
Apologizing to the child’s family, the school pledged full support to ensure their well-being.
It also announced plans to prevent future occurrences, including mandatory child protection training for staff, stricter disciplinary policies, and the introduction of a confidential whistle-blowing system to encourage prompt reporting of misconduct.
As authorities continue their investigation, the school urged the public to allow due process, assuring parents and guardians that necessary steps are being taken to address the matter responsibly.
