A viral video showing a teacher repeatedly slapping a three-year-old pupil at Christ-Mitots School, Isawo Road, Ikorodu, Lagos, has sparked widespread outrage.
The two-minute footage, shared online on Wednesday, captured the teacher striking the child five times while instructing him on writing numbers 61 and 62.
The teacher, identified as Stella Nwadigo, was seen enforcing her lesson with physical punishment.
The video, originally posted by social media user @dammiedammie35, raised serious concerns about child safety in schools.
The caption read: “Footage from Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu shows a teacher mistreating and physically abusing a three-year-old boy, Abayomi Michael.”
In response, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), confirmed the teacher’s arrest, stating that the Owutu Family Support Unit (FSU), had taken her into custody.
The agency reassured the public of the government’s commitment to child protection, emphasizing that schools must be safe and nurturing environments.
“We appreciate those who brought this disturbing incident to our attention.
“The teacher in question has been arrested, and an investigation is underway,” the agency stated.
The DSVA urged anyone with further information on the case or similar incidents to contact them via their toll-free hotline, 08000 333 333, or through their social media platforms.
