Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), marked his 60th birthday with a reflection on his extraordinary journey from an Almajiri school student to the head of Africa’s largest energy corporation.
In a post on X, Kyari expressed gratitude for reaching the milestone and reiterated his commitment to continue serving Nigeria with dedication.
Born on January 8, 1965, Kyari was appointed NNPC CEO by former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2019, bringing over 32 years of experience in the oil industry.
Kyari acknowledged the honor of leading NNPC, thanking Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with the role of the final Group Managing Director of NNPC and the first CEO of NNPC Ltd.
He reflected on the challenges and triumphs of his life, attributing his success to divine grace.
“I have experienced both hardship and success, all of which Allah’s grace can explain,” he wrote.
Kyari also expressed his heartfelt apologies to anyone he may have inadvertently hurt during his journey.
As he moves forward, Kyari committed to serving with renewed dedication, driven by responsibility and the hope of eternal reward.
He also thanked his family for their sacrifices and extended gratitude to friends, colleagues, and mentors who have supported him throughout his career.
