FCT Police Confirms Two Casualties in Abuja School Explosion

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has confirmed that two people died in a suspected bomb explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School, Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin, FCT.

According to a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command received a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi and immediately deployed a team, including its Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and the Area Commander of Kubwa.

The area was cordoned off to ensure public safety and facilitate investigations.

Preliminary findings revealed that three men from Katsina, suspected to be in possession of an improvised explosive device, visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu.

Two of them died while handling the explosive on the school veranda, while the third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are receiving medical attention under police guard.

The statement confirmed that the FCT Bomb Squad had identified the explosion as being caused by an improvised explosive device, with remnants of the device recovered.

The police have taken the school owner into custody for questioning, with further updates to be provided.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or objects resembling explosives.

He also emphasized the importance of prompt reporting and advised residents to stay alert, avoid touching suspicious objects, keep emergency contacts accessible, and work together to enhance community security.
