The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has announced stricter measures against Ponzi and pyramid schemes as part of its 2025 strategic agenda.

SEC Director-General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, disclosed this in a New Year address to the capital market community.

Dr. Agama emphasized the commission’s focus on enhancing market integrity, boosting investor confidence, and fostering economic growth.

He highlighted plans to strengthen enforcement mechanisms, improve regulatory oversight, and revamp investigative processes to curb financial misconduct.

Addressing insider trading, the SEC aims to tighten detection and prevention measures while enhancing transparency in securities transactions.

To ensure swift resolution of market disputes, the Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST), will undergo operational enhancements.

The SEC also plans to strengthen the legal framework governing Nigeria’s commodities market, recognizing its role in economic development.

These initiatives align with the SEC’s vision for a more resilient and inclusive capital market, reinforcing investor trust and driving sustainable financial growth.
